Playa Flamingo is one of the most beautiful beach destinations on Costa Rica’s Gold Coast, located in the Guanacaste province on the northern Pacific coast. Known for its white sand beach, luxury resorts, world-class fishing, and excellent restaurants, Flamingo has become a favorite destination for travelers who want the beauty of Costa Rica with upscale amenities and dining. This guide covers everything you need to plan your visit, from where to stay and eat to getting around and making the most of your time on the Gold Coast.
Playa Flamingo (also called Flamingo Beach) is a small coastal town in the canton of Santa Cruz, Guanacaste. Unlike the busier tourist towns of Tamarindo or Jaco, Flamingo maintains a quieter, more upscale atmosphere. The town is anchored by Marina Flamingo, a state-of-the-art marina with 92 slips in Phase 1 (expanding to 184) that accommodates yachts up to 125 feet. The marina serves as the hub for sport fishing, sailing, and waterfront dining.
The area is sometimes called Costa Rica’s Gold Coast, a stretch of Pacific coastline that includes Playa Flamingo, Potrero, Brasilito, Playa Conchal, and the luxury resort community of Reserva Conchal. The dry season runs from December through April (high season), with warm temperatures averaging 30-35 degrees Celsius (86-95 Fahrenheit). The green season (May through November) offers lower prices, fewer crowds, and lush tropical landscapes with occasional afternoon rain.
